Zeferino "Safo" Ortiz

Mr. Zeferino Ortiz Ocampo “Safo”, age 58 of Meadows of Dan, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at SOVAH Hospital in Martinsville. He was born in Zucualpan, Morelos, Mexico on March 26, 1968, to the late Carmelo Ortiz and Oieta Ocampo Ortiz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by on brother Simon Ortiz. Safo was a man of extraordinary compassion, quiet strength, and an unshakeable work ethic. He poured his whole heart into everything he did, leaving a legacy of dedication and kindness that touched everyone who knew him. Above all, Safo was a devoted family man, sharing a lifetime of love with his beloved wife, Julia. When he wasn’t working hard to care for those he loved, Safo found his greatest joy in the company of his faithful little dog, Poncho. The tender bond they shared was a beautiful reflection of Safo’s gentle soul. He will be deeply missed, forever in the hearts of Julia, his friends, and his loyal companion, Poncho.

Left to cherish the memories of Safo are his devoted wife, Julia Crank-Ortiz; 4 stepchildren; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 2 brothers; 5 sisters; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

The funeral service for Mr. Ortiz will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
