Mrs. Zelma Katrina Adams Hiatt, age 97, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Hiatt was born on October 7, 1928, in Surry County to the late Granville McKinley and Lilla Gammons Adams. Known to many as “Granny”, she was the matriarch of the Hiatt family. She taught her family to love one another and was an example of a true and loving Christian. She faithfully attended church as long as her health would allow. Katrina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving is a daughter, Barbara Hiatt King; a son, William Anthony “Tony” Hiatt; three grandchildren, Travis King and Kelly, Jessica Hiatt Bennett, Katie Hiatt Key and Bradley; seven great-grandchildren, Ellie King, Breanna Goins Smith and John, Lacy Goins, Lucy Bennett, Gunnar Bennett, Lilla Key, Summer Key; a sister, Irona Adams Ledford; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Hiatt; a son, Jimmy Franklin Hiatt; a great grand-daughter, Kristin Olivia Goins; two sisters, Myrtle Adams Branch and Mabel Adams Goad; infant brother, Walter Adams; and two brothers, Wesley Crawford Adams and Winford Reid Adams. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Richard Loman officiating. Interment will follow the service at Indian Grove Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM until the time of the service. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the compassionate and loving care they provided to Mrs. Hiatt in her final days.
